Professor at the School of Design in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and author of Toothpicks and Logos: Design in Everyday Life, among other titles, John Heskett recently visited our offices in Mexico to talk about design and the creation of value. Transforming the conventional view of design, he suggested that design creates sources of wealth, as a way of serving needs and giving meaning to life. He added that designers should be seen as enablers rather than form givers. Heskett has the wise and contagious conviction that design has the capacity to transform business by substantially enhancing effectiveness and profitability.
Interviewed in March for Mexican business magazine Entrepreneur, Luis Arnal recommends keeping eyes wide open at all times, since everybody is a potential client. Identifying true client needs and implementing real solutions to solve their problems is a simple but very effective suggestion for attracting more clients.
Mexican daily Reforma published on March a special edition on new businesses. The article Renovate or Die, the Same Old Challenge, offers a vision of the situation and challenges faced by new companies in Mexico. Luis Arnal and Roberto Holguín talk about their experience as pioneers in the innovation world in Mexico when they founded in/situm five years ago.
Luis Arnal was interviewed in February by Research World, ESOMAR’s monthly publication. He talks about how he got into the fascinating world of research and about his passion for understanding people and envisioning innovations for them. Meeting new people and drinking a good cup of espresso from one of the Italian coffee makers from his large collection, are his main sources of inspiration and energy.
Luis Arnal has been named Member of the Program Committee of Esomar Innovate. This year´s conference will focus on defining innovation from the heart of the matter, from the perspective of research as a driver of innovation for client companies as well as innovative developments in the market research industry. It will take place in Copenhagen from July 16 through 18.
José Tapia is one of the several design experts interviewed for the book “Concept Design”, published by FORA, the Danish Authority for Enterprise and Construction’s Division for Research and Analysis. The book’s goal is to provide a global picture of concept design.

Roberto Holguin has been invited to the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, Canada to help the school give shape to a new Master in Design program around the concept of Useful, usable and desirable.
If 90% of all new products fail, then someone must be doing something wrong. in/situm presentation in Esomar Innovate 2006 congress raised a few eyebrows and created an interesting debate in the market research culture. We showed a glimpse of the future of research and how it can become a crucial role in helping organizations become better innovators.
